The aim of this project completed by TOTO S.p.A. Costruzioni Generali in 2015, was to make in and out traffic flow smoother at the bottle neck entrance of Rome. Therefore, it facilitated the circulation of motorists who travel daily along the urban stretch of the A24 on the motorway section leading to the heart of the city. TOTO S.p.A. Costruzioni Generali has planned the construction of an urban slip road to the A24 motorway, from Viale Palmiro Togliatti to the Roma Est railway station.

A complex work in an area of Rome that has experienced rapid urban and commercial development during recent years.

The coplanar road covers a total length of about 14 km and includes 14 viaducts – for a total of 2.800 m – made of composite steel-concrete section decks and beams in prestressed reinforced concrete. The junction of the Grande Raccordo Anulare comprises 9 overpasses, underpasses, manholes, reinforced earth walls, concrete walls and road service works.

A second intervention was the redevelopment of restraint devices and signs in the stretch between Casal Bertone and the Roma Est station. The particularity of this work was the use of “zero-kilometre” materials. In order to reduce transport duration and cost to the minimum, a prefabrication plant was built near Tivoli in order to produce prestressed post tensioned concrete beams and other prefabricated elements.
