Messina, July 30, 2024 – The opening of the new roadway on the upstream side of the Ritiro Viaduct, located on the A20 Messina-Palermo highway, marked an important step forward in strengthening the connections between these two major urban centers, with a safer and more sustainable infrastructure. The work, carried out on behalf of CAS Autostrade Siciliane, involved reinforcing foundations, piers and shoulders, demolishing and rebuilding pulvinos and replacing decks – a complex intervention due in part to the fact that the work is located in a densely populated urban area with heavy traffic.
After the opening of the new roadway on the sea side, the work focused on the completion of the new roadway on the upstream side, with the demolition of the last span by microloading being one of the key moments for the completion of the work.
This is an achievement that confirms our commitment to Sicilian infrastructure and economic and social development. It is the result of great teamwork, so special thanks to all the workers who made this important milestone for Sicily possible and to the local institutions for their continued support and collaboration. On this occasion, we want to remember Salvatore Ada who lost his life while engaged in the construction of this work, reiterating our closeness and participation in his family’s grief.
The words of Alfonso Toto: “Today’s date is important to celebrate the work of all those who built such an impressive infrastructure as the new Ritiro Viaduct. To all the workers who worked on this work goes a thank you, especially heartfelt, from all of us. Today we are leaving something that will benefit the territory, enrich the skills of those who worked on a unique work that will certainly contribute to the modernization of the Sicilian transport network.”
