With the Amatrice Bypass, the company’s commitment to building the new state road continues
Montereale (AQ), 22 May 2025 – Toto Costruzioni Generali has completed work on the Fourth Lot of State Road 260 ‘Picente’, a contract awarded by Anas worth around 50 million euros for a stretch of about 7 km, opened to traffic today. The work marks an important step forward in improving the connections between L’Aquila and Amatrice, an area hard hit by the recent earthquakes and the crossroads of four regions of central Italy.
The project involved upgrading the SS.260 main national road with the construction of significant infrastructural works on the section of the state road that passes through the municipalities of Capitignano and Montereale, in the province of L’Aquila. A central element of the lot is established by the construction of the bypass at the Marana village, which allows the old route to be crossed in a tunnel with a safe and fast crossing, separating local traffic from heavy and long-distance traffic.
The Marana Tunnel, which extends for approximately 1.2 km, is equipped with modern technological systems that increase safety standards for users, together with the emergency pedestrian tunnel that runs parallel to it and is interconnected by four by-passes. Upon exiting the tunnel, the route continues, again as a variant, with the ‘Mogliette’ Viaduct, with a continuous corten steel deck with a 56-metre central span and two 37-metre lateral spans. This is followed by four further bridges and as many new roundabouts to connect with the existing road system.
‘This significant intervention now guarantees a more linear route, realised with state-of-the-art technical solutions for greater motorists‘ safety, with a significant reduction in travel time, and at the same time contributes to the reduction of air pollution with more modern and efficient roadway solutions,’ said Gianluca Cangemi, General Manager of Toto Costruzioni Generali. ‘An innovative work desired by ANAS, the contracting station that we thank for the trust placed in us,’ added Paolo Toto, President and CEO of Toto Costruzioni Generali. ‘A special thank you on behalf of the company to the 120 specialised technicians and workers of Toto Costruzioni Generali, who have worked with passion and skill, overcoming every challenge to deliver a strategic work for the area. Safer, quicker and more comfortable connections aim to facilitate inter-regional travel and exchanges between local communities where our company has been well established over the years. This is why Toto Costruzioni Generali’s commitment alongside ANAS for the renovation of the Statale Picente does not stop’.
In fact, the company is also involved in the design and execution of works for the bypass to the SS 260 road in the municipality of Amatrice, a work worth around 40 million euros that will relieve traffic in the town’s historic centre. Preliminary work-site activities are in the start-up phase, bearing witness to a solid relationship with the territory and local communities.
