{"id":8680,"date":"2021-03-10T01:05:12","date_gmt":"2021-03-10T00:05:12","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/totospa.it\/uncategorized\/railway-section-cefalu-castelbuono\/"},"modified":"2026-01-30T09:44:08","modified_gmt":"2026-01-30T08:44:08","slug":"railway-section-cefalu-castelbuono","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/totospa.it\/en\/projects\/railway-section-cefalu-castelbuono\/","title":{"rendered":"Doubling of the Cefal\u00f9 \u2013 Castelbuono railway line"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<ul class=\"wp-block-list\">\n<li><strong>Location:<\/strong> Italy \u2013 Sicily, Municipality of Cefal\u00f9<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Client:<\/strong> RFI \u2013 Rete Ferroviaria Italiana S.p.A.<\/li>\n\n\n\n<li><strong>Project value:<\/strong> \u20ac 402.284.385,24<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n\n\n<p>The project involves the executive design and construction of the \u201crailway line doubling\u201d of the Cefal\u00f9 Ogliastrillo \u2013 Castelbuono section, along the Palermo \u2013 Messina line.\r\n\r\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It is a particularly complex project, which will be implemented with the latest technologies and characterised by works that are almost entirely underground, including the new Cefal\u00f9 railway station.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"457\" src=\"https:\/\/totospa.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Infografica-linea-ferroviaria-Palermo-Messina-1024x457.webp\" alt=\"\" class=\"wp-image-17576\" srcset=\"https:\/\/totospa.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Infografica-linea-ferroviaria-Palermo-Messina-1024x457.webp 1024w, https:\/\/totospa.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Infografica-linea-ferroviaria-Palermo-Messina-300x134.webp 300w, https:\/\/totospa.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Infografica-linea-ferroviaria-Palermo-Messina-768x343.webp 768w, https:\/\/totospa.it\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/03\/Infografica-linea-ferroviaria-Palermo-Messina.webp 1500w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project will make it possible to redefine overall regional planning in one of the most evocative and renowned places on the northern Sicilian coast.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project focuses on a section approximately 12.3 kilometres long \u2013 entirely on double tracks \u2013 operating between Ogliastrillo, in the Municipality of Cefal\u00f9, and the Castelbuono station, in the Municipality of Pollina.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The work includes the excavation of four tunnels: Cefal\u00f9, a 6,700-metre twin-tube tunnel; Sant&#8217;Ambrogio, a 4,000-metre single-tube tunnel; the S. Ambrogio access tunnel, 750-metre; and Malpertugio, 180-metre.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>To construct the Cefal\u00f9 tunnel, the longest of the whole project, a single, Single-Shield, Dual Mode Tunnel Boring Machine or\u00a0<em><a href=\"https:\/\/totospa.it\/en\/videogallery-en\/tbm-margherita-tbm-dual-mode-ready-to-bore\/\"><strong>TBM<\/strong><\/a><\/em> will be used, capable of advancing through various different types of terrain.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The construction of the new \u201cCastelbuono Station\u201d, with related roadway access, is also planned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The project will connect the town of Cefal\u00f9 more efficiently with Palermo and Falcone Borsellino Airport.
