Ritiro Viaduct: foundations reinforced. Everything is ready for the removal of the decks

Sicily, work progresses on the Palermo-Messina freeway urban viaduct

Restoration work on the Ritiro viaduct, a vital junction for the Messina road network and the main link to the freeway junctions, is proceeding according to plan. The reinforcement of the foundations by means of metal pipe bulkheads filled with reinforced concrete is currently being completed. The spans that will complete ramp A of the adjacent Giostra junction are also nearing completion.

Preliminary work is also underway to remove the deck, which will be dismantled, lifted beam by beam and removed using a launch vehicle. In order to allow this operation, which is particularly complex and articulated, the client CAS (Consorzio delle Autostrade Siciliane) has already ordered the detour of traffic heading towards Palermo, making the right carriageway of the viaduct available.
