PontePo: an ancient history that speaks of the future

Work has begun in recent weeks on the renovation of the bridge that connects the towns of Bagnolo San Vito and San Benedetto Po, in the province of Mantua. At the end of the intervention, which will last just under two years, the bridge will have a completely new look and it will be easier to move from one side of the river to the other both for motorists and for those who travel by bicycle.

Perfectly in tune with the landscape of the Mantuan countryside, the new bridge – dark red in color – will consist of two steel arches side by side, for a total length of about 330 meters. A provincial road will continue to run over the bridge, which will be flanked in both directions by lateral bicycle and pedestrian paths.

The bridge will be a spectacle even in the construction phase: to move and lay the elements assembled on the ground, will be used large pontoons specially equipped, which will allow to “walk on water” the components of the structure.

The intervention concerns the renovation of the bridge over the river Po of the Provincial Road ex S.S. 413 “Romana” in the municipalities of Bagnolo San Vito and San Benedetto Po, both belonging to the province of Mantua, bordering in the central position of the incised bed of the river Po. It extends for a length of about 613 m along the S.P. ex S.S. 413 “Romana” crossing first the Municipality of Bagnolo San Vito on the left bank and then the Municipality of San Benedetto Po on the right bank.
