Sicily, work is progressing on the urban viaduct of the Palermo-Messina motorway
The works to restore the Ritiro viaduct, a vital junction for Messina’s road network, the main link to the motorway junctions, proceed according to schedule. Reinforcement work on the foundations is currently being completed by means of metal pipe bulkheads filled with reinforced concrete. Finally, the bays that will complete ramp A of the adjacent Svincolo di Giostra will also be completed.
Preparatory work is also underway on the shedding of the deck, which will be dismantled, raised beam by beam and removed using a launch wagon. In order to enable this particularly complex and articulated operation, the client CAS (Consorzio delle Autostrade Siciliane) has already ordered the diversion of traffic to Palermo, making the right carriageway of the viaduct available.
