The ambitious project for the longest tunnel in Poland, between the Baltic islands of Usedom and Wolin, close to the German border, is being fought over by some of the largest European construction companies. A 1.4 km-long tunnel to be excavated with the help of a 12-metre diameter TBM, a work that will revolutionise the connections with the city of Swinoujscie, an important tourist centre in the Szczecin lagoon in Western Pomerania. These are the record-breaking features of a project worth over € 200 million, 85% of which will be financed from Community funds and which the Polish authorities are confident will be completed by the beginning of 2022.
